What's New...

The Airfield Marking Handbook has been revised, adapted, collated, and corrected countless times, and it has finally been submitted to the Cooperative Programs Office of the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation for the Federal Aviation Administration. With the document, already out of our hands, we're already experiencing withdrawal!

It now goes through other stages until it is published, but our work on the handbook is complete (lest we jinx ourselves). It has been an incredible learning experience, and we think the handbook will serve the industry well.

Originally the document was entitled "Best Practices Airfield Marking Handbook." However, all things change, and the Handbook was no exception; the title is now "Airfield Marking Handbook", as it evolved into much more than strictly documentation of best practices observed. It is the most comprehensive resource for all things concerning airfield markings.

Once again, thank you to the following groups:

  • Members of the Research Team.
  • Members of the IPRF Technical Panel.
  • Participants in the Roundtable Discussion.
  • The staff of the many airports we visited during the research.
  • The staff of the airport marking contractors.

All worked together to make the document what it is; and we at Sightline are grateful to everyone involved.

We have received several emails from readers about requesting a copy of the handbook. All of those emails have been saved and will receive a notice when it is available. It will be available in print (which includes a supplemental DVD), and of course it will be available in electronic format for anyone to download; we will have a link on our website to the IPRF download site. If you send us an email, we will contact you when the handbook is available!
