Refreshing WeatherBy Mike Speidel     It was a rough winter in Virginia, with a total of 73.2" of snow accumulation at Dulles
International Airport. Philadelphia recorded its snowiest winter ever as well, and along with the rest
of the airports in the Northeast worked their snow operations personnel ad absurdum. As a result of
constant brooming and plowing, airfield marking durability was put to the test all winter long.

With the weather trend warming nicely just six weeks out from the last snow accumulation
for most of the region, it's time to prescribe another refresh for those battered pavement markings...
		or is it?

The current industry standard nationwide is to repaint everything blindly each spring
without giving consideration to existing marking functionality, surface preparation and/or removal
requirements, etc. This is an extremely ineffective practice.

The Sightline standard evaluates existing conditions and develops tailored
specifications to address each airport's unique needs. Half of the existing markings on the airfield may be
functioning perfectly, without need of a repaint. But how would you know if no one looks? Ours is a
green standard, helping to reduce consumption of materials,
not to mention reducing airport fund usage and interruptions to operations.

No doubt you want what's best for the airport and we can help you attain a safer
airfield while saving you money. Take the initiative and opportunity to enhance your airfield marking
standards this season; now that would be refreshing!
