What's New
The FAA has released a Draft version of Advisory Circular 150/5340-1K that will replace 150/5340-1J. There have been
several changes to marking standards over the last few years, and many questions about those standards have been asked and answered
through the SAMS (Signs and Markings Supplement). 5340-1K clarifies some of the old standards, as well as explains some of the new
standards in greater detail. It also incorporates many of the guidance that is provided in the SAMS. Of particular note for Sightline
is that Advisory Circular 150/5370-10, Section P-620 (the "how-to-do-it" of airfield markings for the FAA) is cross-referenced in
several instances. That is significant because the leadership is noting the importance of application techniques. The new AC has
also used colored call-out boxes to draw attention to specific criteria that should be considered.
The Airfield Marking Symposium beginning in Milwaukee next week will
incorporate discussion about the significant changes in this draft AC.

provide your comments to the FAA. Click here to view the new draft.
