Airfield Marking Handbook

By Mike Speidel

The Best Practices Airfield Marking Handbook Project is nearly complete! Our last meeting with the technical panel was held a week ago; it was a great success, as always. The efforts and collaboration of many people have supplied us with a document we are very proud of - and it continues to improve every day. We are eager to go to print, however, as it was stated in the review last week, the last leg of editing can make an otherwise good document great.

In response to that comment, we have been allowed a little more time to shape the document into its final form. The last five percent of writing the Handbook could prove to be the most difficult. However, there is no doubt in our minds that the caliber of the people involved in this project will determine, once again, the final version will be superior. We would like to say many thanks to all involved including the technical panel, the research team, the roundtable participants, and certainly the airports and staff that provided us with anything we needed.

We have received several emails from readers about requesting a copy of the handbook. All of those emails have been saved and will receive a notice when it is available. There will be an initial printing of up to 1000 copies, and of course it will be available in electronic format for anyone to download. There will be a link created from our website to the IPRF site containing the document when the time comes. The target release date has been pushed back slightly, now due out early this summer. If you send us an email, I will contact you when the handbook is available!
