If airport navigational aids were children, then markings would be the conflicted middle child. Signs and lights seem to get all the love, attention, and performance standards!
If you eat at restaurants surely you've seen the health inspection ratings on the wall reading "96.5". Hopefully that's based on a one hundred point scale! However, inspection results don't always tell an accurate story. "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."
You will never hear an airport crew say they need less time to paint. In the aviation industry, time for maintenance on the airfields is precious. However, if crews are hurried to complete their tasks, the resulting product and the airport will suffer.
